Manson Trojans Volleyball showed real heart Tuesday night. After dropping the first two sets to the Brewster Bears, they came back to win three straight and take the match 3–2.
Set by set:
Brewster 25–22, Brewster 26–24, Manson 25–22, Manson 26–24, Manson 15–5
Brewster took two close opening sets, and with their season on the line the Trojans refused to quit. Sets 3 and 4 were as tight as the first two, but this time Manson made the plays when it mattered, including another 26–24 battle to force a fifth set. Then the Trojans took over, rolling through the deciding set 15–5.
Leading the charge:
- Katie Coltman had a monster night with 29 kills on 72 swings and 4 aces. She was the go-to hitter all night.
- Kailani Cruz ran the offense with 56 assists and added 4 aces.
- Abigail Williams gave the attack a second strong option with 12 kills.
- Elsa Riippi chipped in 9 kills and 3 aces.
- Izzy Walsh added 6 kills (.222) and led the team with 1.5 blocks at the net.
- Violet Wisdom was super efficient with 5 kills on just 10 swings (.400).
- Graidys Leyva (3 aces) and Shamia Portillo (2 aces) kept the pressure on from the service line.
By the numbers: Manson outhit Brewster 64–38 in kills, served 18 aces to Brewster’s 12, and had a 34% kill rate compared to Brewster’s 24%. That’s how a team comes back from 0–2.
