Final score: Manson 24 Tonasket 20
With 15 seconds left on the clock the Manson Trojans took their first lead of the game on a 1 yard TD run by Caden Beazley. The Trojans converted the 2-point conversion to make the score 24 to 20. They stopped the Tonasket Tigers on consecutive plays to end the game. The thrilling winning drive was setup up by a 30 yard brother-to-brother pass from Caden Beazley to Cal Beazley to put the Trojans on the 5-yard line. “It was pretty special to watch Caden, a Senior, throw the ball to his Freshman brother. Better yet, one of the passes was to set up the winning score” Coach Joey Johanson.
The defense kept the Trojans in the game all evening. Many players contributed on defense and the Trojans had 3 key stops in the 4th quarter including a 3rd and short stop with 1:50 left in the game. The defensive line anchored by Junior Vargas, Joe Mogan, Cody Fitzpatrick and Juan Garcia kept the Tonasket running backs corralled all night.
On offense, the Trojans had 5 turnovers, but were able to overcome this. “I put Caden Beazley at QB after losing our QB Angel Lopez last week due to an injury. He does anything the coaching staff asks and even though it wasn’t pretty, I believe he kept us in the game by commanding the offense,” said Coach Johanson, “He threw a handful of picks, but then he also gives you the ability to drop back and then take off for a 60 yard TD run.” Another bright spot was Sophomore running back Hervin Chavez. He filled in at RB and did everything asked of him. He had a couple of nice runs to keep the chains moving. He also contributed a lot on defense being the 2nd leading tackler with 6 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. Parker Teague and Tucker Flowers made some key catches throughout the game. Parker Teague also caught a 2-point conversion. Another consistent piece for the Trojans was Center Alex Solorio. He had another clean game snapping and mowed down the middle of the Tonasket defense. “I don’t think Centers get enough credit. Alex has been snapping great for us all year and that continued tonight,” Coach Johanson. “Overall I’m really proud of how our boys battled and came back from being down 12 in the 4th quarter. Tonasket played a great game, but our boys dug deep and grinded out a win!”
Manson sits at 2-2 on the season and will host Oroville next Friday for the last game of the year.
